Located just over an hour out of Christchurch you will discover the most beautiful hidden gem. Rockwood Station is in every way the perfect escape, suitable for all ages I cannot think of anyone who wouldn’t enjoy their stay here. This one is slightly more modern than the other Canopy Camping sites we have already ticked off from our list, which is great for those of you who may not be super keen nature lovers.
If your planning on popping the question, celebrating a birthday or anniversary, a mini honeymoon or maybe you just want a weekend away to fully relax off the grid without technology then you will absolutely love this site!!
The space is absolutely beautiful and has been so well styled by one of the owners Cheryl. She has incorporated modern with rustic vibes and has totally made sure your every need is covered. From the cosy couches in the sitting area where you can relax with a hot chocolate and take in the views, to the sleeping and dining area.
Another great bonus about Rockwood is that it has a full kitchen set up which is just so handy and would be even more amazing for BBQ prep in the summer time! In the kitchen you will find antique cutlery from Cheryl’s Grandfather, and beautiful gin glasses for any celebrations. There is even a nespresso coffee machine – i told you they had thought of everything!!
Now lets talk outdoors, by far this was our favourite area being lovers of nature. The entertaining area comes complete with a large outdoor fire, which you can cook on! and a fire pitt for toasting all those marshmellows. This area is surrounded by really cool seating, put together by using rocks from the nearby river and is an amazing place to just be still and listen to the Rockwood River flow gently down stream.
Outdoors joint to the Summer house is where you will also find the bathroom. Complete with a beautiful large spa bath, with views out into the trees it honestly just does not get better than this. Being in that spa bath was just the icing on the cake to the stay, if you werent already blissfully relaxed you will be after that, so don’t forget to take a bath bomb!!
Cheryl and Ben have created the ultimate getaway retreat, whilst still creating a space that feels homely and comfortble – their farm cat Holly also really loves to come and visit for cuddles! With this site only being a few months old, I can already tell its going to become a hit with everyone. Rockwood has alot of History from Bens side of the family and we cannot wait to come back in the Spring/Summer to explore the property a little more.
With their very own bush tracks, waterfalls and waterholes and being located near so many other great things to do you certainly have no reason to get bored. It’s safe to say we had an incredible time at Rockwood Station, and I have to say this may just now be my favourite Canopy Camping site so far! Thank you so much for having us!!

Tips: For winter stays take warm clothing, Bug Spray, hiking boots to explore and lots of Marshmellows!! Also be mindful that there isn’t a proper road yet from the Main house to the Summer house so its good to have a 4WD car as the grass is super slippery and with rain and snow you will most likely get stuck lol!! I would even take gumboots incase you have to do some pushing !!
Stay tuned as we explore the rest of the Canopy Camping sites over the weeks to come, as an Ambassador I will be documenting all sites here on my blog and instagram account www.staceybanfield.com/staceybanfield_
