Now I love myself a wee getaway, but one thing I hadn’t tried before was a Staycation within my own city. Regan & I recently had the chance to check out the brand spanking new Crowne Plaza here in Christchurch and it was amazing!! At first it felt a bit weird when the front desk asked us where we had traveled from, and our reply was 10 minutes down the road haha!
Once we entered our beautiful king suite, it totally took our minds away from knowing we were still within our home town. The room was amazing! Spacious, decorated to perfection and don’t even get me started on how beautiful the bathroom was! I was eyeing up the incredible round mirror and thinking of where I could put one in our own home.
The Crowne Plaza is in a prime spot within the heart of the city, only walking distance to so many iconic Christchurch must do’s such as The Tramline, Rollickin Gelato, New Regent Street, City Mall and the Art Centre just to name a few. We decided to not venture too far for dinner, but instead to stay in house and try out The Crowne Plaza’s very own restaurant “The Market Place”.
We haven’t really ever had the opportunity to experience proper fine dining, so this was an absolute treat. Greeted by super friendly staff, serenaded by piano, just sitting there waiting on our meal was an experience in itself. All the produce, meats and seafood on the Menu is actually mostly locally sourced, which I think is pretty awesome as I’m all for supporting local.
When on a Staycation the main thing is to enjoy your city, and play the Tourist so of course we did just that. We took a stroll through the beautiful and iconic Botanic Gardens, then headed over to the Antigua Boat Shed where we took a private punt down the Avon River.
This is something everyone has to do when visiting Christchurch, whether it’s by Punt or Kayak it’s such a nice peaceful way to start or end your day within the Garden City. After the punt on our stroll back, we checked out the street art, that is becoming a popular sight within the City. Since the Earthquakes we have lost a lot of big buildings, so local artists have made it their priority to fill the spaces with art work that is bright, fun and amazing- totally another must do these artist’s really are talented.
To end our day we wanted to do something a little different that we hadn’t done before within our own city, so we decided to go and pick Berries. We headed to Blue Berry Bliss which is about 20 minutes by car from the Crowne Plaza, to get ourselves some fresh and delicious berries to add to our morning smoothies. $16 will get you a 1kg bag, and let me tell you it’s a lot harder work than you think, especially as when we went it was a scorching 30 degree day!! Either way it was lots of fun joining other locals and tourists, to see who could get the best berries!!
Although our Stay-cation was only for 1 night, it was so nice to feel like we really were on holiday. The Crowne Plaza made our stay so relaxing and had everything we could ever need, including a pillow menu like how cool is that!If your thinking about doing something nice for a romantic night away or maybe just as a little treat for yourself, but you don’t have the time to actually go too far away, I highly recommend taking a stay-cation.
It makes you feel refreshed, allows you to really appreciate your own city and of course to explore around and visit things you haven’t yet had the chance to see. Thank you to the Crowne Plaza for allowing us to do all of the above, it truly was such a great stay.
