Set up on the cliffs above Woodpecker Bay 10mins from Punakaiki, hidden amongst the trees you will find The Hexagon. An old restored Astrologists home now owned by Jed.
Jed is a local from the West Coast who knows everything and anything about the surrounding areas. He purchased the property in the 90's and had it for quite some years before he decided to restore it into the magical little haven that it now is.
For those interested in staying at The Hexagon, you must have a sense of adventure as the hike up to the hut is steep and quite muddy in the Winter months so make sure you bring your gummies!! Jed kindly takes your baggage up on his quad bike, but there isn't enough room for everyone so enjoy your walk! LOL
The Hexagon has ocean views, nature surrounding it including some wild guests like Weka and Goats, oh and we also has a mouse pop in and say Hi which I wasn't all too thrilled about, but it made for great laughs. The hut is once again fully off the grid although it is solar powered for lighting and has a multi plug box available to charge your phone or laptop.
Taking your laptop is a good idea if you want to watch any movies, but if you're looking to totally immerse yourself into the no technology lifestyle, there are lots of board games on hand. Whoever knew snap and snakes and ladders could get so competitive lol!
So let's talk more about what makes this place so amazing, The Hexagon is a beautiful one bedroom rustic style hut. Made from native timber that flows from the indoors through to the outside. Large windows and doors surround the room giving you beautiful views to wake to.
To keep you warm there is a small fire, and for all your cooking needs you just need to pop out the door to the outdoor kitchen and bathroom area complete with outdoor shower. You will find the compost toilet slightly off from the kitchen, up about 5 steps with full privacy but sorry folks its not a flushing toilet like your normally use to, but it's totally not bad to use at all!
One of our favourite things would have to be the outdoor bath, Jed the host kindly had the fire under it already going for us, so the water was super hot and ready to go. If you haven't ever bathed under the stars you need to!!
This hut will always be special to us as we got Engaged whilst staying there, but there really is just something so peaceful and dreamy about the whole experience of the stay you have. So if your an adventure seeking couple, looking to emmerse yourself into all things wild and free then The Hexagon is totally for you.
